Background:
Jada was born into a loving family that cared about her deeply. They were nothing important, just a simple family living out their lives, at least, that’s what everyone saw on the outside. The truth was they had a dark secret that they kept hidden from everyone including Jada.
One night while little Jada was sleeping in her nice comfy bed a group of people broke into their house and attacked her father. Jada heard the loud noises from downstairs and as she opened her eyes her mother was right there scooping her up into her arms. “M..Mommy, what’s going on?” She said in a small sleepy tone. As the sound of her father screaming could be heard from downstairs along with the sound of struggling. Her mother had tears streaming down her face as she tried to remain strong for the little Jada. “Nothing, my sweet little Jada. Your dad is just downstairs doing a bit of remodeling on the house.” She explained to Jada as she kissed her forehead. Terrible lie, but Jada was only a child and of course she believed her mother.
Jada’s mother very quietly moved the two to Jada’s closet as she heard the commotion downstairs suddenly stop. Her mother had to fight back tears knowing that meant only one thing. Her husband was dead. Jada’s mother sat her down next to her. “Don’t you leave my side alright?” Her mother asked as Jada clung to the stuff horse she had in her tiny arms. Jada nodded and looked around the room before she heard footsteps heading up the stairs. She pulled on her mother’s nightgown while looking in the doorway. “Mommy, someone is coming.” She said as she continued to watch the doorway. Her mother in the meantime had pushed her clothes to the sides of her closet reviling nothing but a wall. The footsteps were getting closer. Jada’s mother pushed gently on the wall and a section of it that looked like a door seemed to form and open. Jada’s mother quickly picked her up, gave her a tight hug and kissed her forehead. “I love you, my sweet Jada. Remember that.” She said before quickly pushing Jada into the wall. The door would close automatically, but it did it slowly giving Jada just enough time to see a dark pale figure bite into her mother’s neck causing her to scream out in pain. “Mommy! No!” She screamed out wanting to run to her mother, but the door had closed. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she sat in that small room crying and hugging her legs. In a matter of minutes, she lost both of her parents in one night.
Jada would only be in that room for an hour before a woman she didn’t know opened the door, but the woman had a police uniform on. As soon as Jada saw that she ran towards the policewoman and hugged her leg. “A… A… Monster kill my parents!” She screamed out clinging to the woman’s leg. The policewoman lowered her hand to Jada’s head to rub it to try and comfort her. “I’m so sorry, Jada.” She spoke as if she knew Jada already. “Ryan call the agency there was another attack.” She called back to the policeman that was with her.
After that night Jada went on with her life never knowing what truly happened to her parents. She was adopted by the police that found her, Ryan and Sarah Mathews. They also had a secret that she hadn’t found out about. A secret they hope never comes to light.
